About the event
This seminar explores the entanglement of researcher-bodies in the study of medical cosmetic procedures. Drawing on reflexive narratives, we examine three recurring dynamics: cycles of consideration and resistance towards procedures, moments of aesthetic judgement directed inward and outward, and the slippages that collapse distance between researcher and researched. These accounts demonstrate that researchers are always already implicated in the cosmetic gaze. By foregrounding our own embodied positionalities, we highlight the value - and challenges - of situated knowledges.
Speaker: Becki Nash is a Senior Teaching Fellow in CHEP, working as a PGR academic developer. She also researches medical cosmetic procedures, with a current focus on how non-surgical cosmetic treatments are perceived and experienced by both patients and practitioners.
